Jase Walker upstaged superior, Keenan Dougal, embarrassing him. While friendly to his face, it was clear Keenan Dougal wanted him gone from Scout Service. He gave him do-nothing jobs, pushy appointments to get him away from him. He’s now pulled strings with Rider-Waite Corporation to get a mortgage for Luna Moth
Jase Walker spent 16 years in the Scout Service doing solo survey work — long stretches alone in jump space, just him and his instruments. He got good at reading systems, reading situations, and reading people, but never got good at managing up. He just did the work, and he did it better than most, which turned out to be the problem.
He didn’t set out to embarrass Keenan Dougal — he just filed accurate reports. The data spoke for itself. That was apparently enough to make an enemy.
The Luna Moth is complicated. It’s a good ship and he knows it — generous terms, suspiciously so. That’s what bothers him. He’s not sure if it’s a gift or a muzzle. Either way, the monthly payments mean he can’t afford to stop moving.
