SG008
We wake up at The Abbey and Father Amaru is adding things to our map. He says poor, unfortunate souls take the low path across Matted Reeds and Muddy Switchbacks to avoid the bridge, but it’s dangerous due to wildlife, the onset of rain, and getting lost.
We head outside and notice columns of cloud rising out of the water into the sky every few hundred yards. He explains that this is the sign that it’s the last day of “Placid”.
Father Amaru leads us towards Ruined Blimp.
We continue towards the Ruined Bridge in the afternoon. The area ahead (right near the bridge) seems like an obvious place to get ambushed - trail dips into a saddle.
We try to sneak up off the path to get a glimpse of them, but we don’t see them and we waste some time. It’s now evening.
Hector Castle and Father Amaru walk up to the bandits with their hands up, while Thaddeus Bautista and Jase Walker stay back and hide in case they need support.
Father Amaru helps Hector Castle fashion a makeshift truce flag on the end of his spear.
As they round the bend, they hear a woman’s voice “freeze! drop your weapons!” Hector Castle drops his spear and shotgun and says he just wants to talk. A young man comes down and the young woman approaches - they have muzzle-loading rifles and they’re wearing face coverings, wearing random leather clothing.
The man picks the shotgun up and says “Good to see you Father Amaru. Didn’t expect to see you away from The Abbey, especially with outsiders. What the hell are you doing here?”
Hector says he’s trying to find the missing people from 11-5-9 Commune - San Lorenzo village.
He laughs and says “Me too”. Asks again. “How about I keep this pea shooter and you get the hell off my island?”
“How about you keep the pea shooter and we talk?” - Hector
Hector says we know about the deal with The Gene Stitchers and wants to know who’s breaking the deal.
Man lifts up his shirt, revealing tattoo symbol and says “We’re Unmetered. We’re breaking the deal”
Hector says he wants to know if the missing people were abducted.
“This is a volunteer organization.”
He asks what the toll is for passing the bridge and the man says 1 shotgun should cover you two. Woman is scanning horizon to see if there are others hiding.
He says we can pass if we bring him ficus leaves from down by the Cliffside Caverns quest
Woman: Andija Venn Man: Jorge Pico
They leave, and Hector Castle and Father Amaru turn and walk back down the path towards us
Hector Castle tells Father Amaru that he wants to renegotiate the deal with the Gene Stitchers and wants to help negotiate a better deal between the Gene Stitchers and Unmetered to try to make the island’s relations better.
We trek back to the Ruined Blimp and send Father Amaru back to The Abbey while we prepare to make camp at The Ruined Blimp the night.

We see the huge columns of evaporated water drawing up from the sea. The sea level is much lower as the sky fills with clouds.
SG009
In the AM, we head to the Cliffside Caverns to try to harvest ficus leaves.
From the cliffs, w can look down on the caverns and see flocks of dozens of reptilian birds that roost along the cliffs. Lower down on the cliff lay skeletons. There are very narrow (2” wide) half trails that switchback down the cliffside to the ficus trees.
Jase Walker ties a rope up top and lets it dangle down the switchbacks. We slowly make our way down the switchbacks and make it part way before hearing the beating of wings overhead. combat
Two of the creatures try to attack us. One tries to yank Jase Walker off the cliff. It drags him off the trail and over the edge, but he’s still holding onto the rope. Thaddeus Bautista holds the rope tight to the cliffside. Jase Walker dangles from the rope over the edge. The second creature attacks Hector Castle but can’t drag him off.
Hector Castle attempts to spear the creature holding Jase Walker. He skewers it and then Thaddeus Bautista shoots the other one, then brings Jase Walker back onto the path and we continue onwards and find some ficus trees to harvest.
We fill our packs with ficus leaves and grab seeds and roots as well, hopefully to plant in a more accessible location.
Further down, we see a cavern with ficus trees growing out of it. A pathway leads inside. We head into the cavern.
We see a cenote-like cave with a path that leads upwards. A pool of water is in the cave with oily, hairy-looking brown stones breaking the top of the water. We can see sunlight peeking through the top of the cave above.
Hector Castle skips a rock across the water. One of the oily rocks moves. It’s a creature’s back. The head erupts from just below the surface. It looks similar to a hippopotamus. Big, jagged teeth, etc. It snorts and starts swimming towards us.
We run back up the switchbacks as the creature bellows at us from below. We make it back up top and Jase Walker collects the rope again.
It’s still afternoon, so we head to Ruined Blimp and camp there for the night.
